Merry Christmas Sans The Pack (for once)
I hope everyone has a wonderful Christmas! Ken and I actually managed to find a
dog sitter to take care of the pack so we could drive the four hours to my parents’ house for the holidays. We typically drive up and back on the same day…which makes for a long day. 8 hours of driving and the ride home is after a huge Christmas dinner. Makes for a hurried and stressful day. But not this year!
This is the first time using our new dog sitter. Since we’re only four hours away, if there was an emergency at least we could be home pretty quickly. So far, things seem to be going well. We did get one phone call tonight because she couldn’t get Stella (spook) back into the kennel building (the dogs are staying crated in the kennel building while we’re gone). We were quite surprised because we actually thought Diva would be more of a challenge for them. Apparently, she could get Stella to take treats from her in the yard, but she wouldn’t go in the actual building. Ken suggested opening the gate that leads to the back door of the house, which is a much more contained space and slipping leash over her. I guess that worked, because we didn’t hear back. I’m glad she called us and glad everything could be handled.
It’s so weird for both of us to go away for the night and not worry about the pups! Granted, I’m sure they’re not ultra thrilled about being crated since we really never crate them anymore. But, sometimes the Pack Leaders need a bit of a break so they are going to have to deal with it for a bit longer until we get home tomorrow.
……………yeah, yeah, yeah…I’ll admit the mushy-gushy Mommy part of me does feel really bad for my babies having to spend Christmas in a crate. I’m sure we’ll make it up to them with some yummy bones and/or turkey necks.
