Harmony: Final Update

feature photo

After a heartfelt talk with her doctor, we decided it was time to let Harmony be at peace. She fought bravely and with all she had, but her body was just not strong enough to beat whatever was making her sick. After 5 days of treatment, Harmony was not making any new red blood cells and she was shredding any that were transfused to her. Today, her tail stopped wagging and we all agreed that a third transfusion would just be delaying the inevitable. They will be  some post-mortem tests to try to figure out what took our baby. Hopefully we will get some answers…if for no other reason then to help them help the next dog that comes in with symptoms like hers. I will post a follow up if we get any definitive answers. Thank you all so much for all the support and prayers over the last week. We will post a rememberance thread when we are able. I think Ken and I are still numb and in disbelief that Harmony won’t be coming home

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

  3. I’m so sorry for your loss, Heather and Ken.

  4. We lost our Comet (8) in September. Her liver failed and we don’t know why. She looks much like your girl! Her urine was dark orange on a Tues morning, took her in, found fluid in her belly, she was throwing up and was jaundiced. She, too, handled it well and wagged her tail every day. On Friday morning, the vet called to say the tail wasn’t wagging, she was suffering and there wasn’t a thing we could do to fix her. We went in and were with her when she crossed the bridge. I’m on GreyTalk under Mom2Comet – I posted our story there. I am so sorry for your loss. I’m sure Comet has had the chance to meet Harmony and hopefully they got to play together. Again, we’re so sorry for your loss.

  5. Heather & Ken,

I’m so sorry to read this about Harmony. You and your pack are in my thoughts & prayers. I’m sure Ally is showing Harmony around at the bridge.
