No Answers for Bodhi

We finally heard back from the vet with test results from Cornell. Unfortunately, they can only tell us what he didn’t die from. It wasn’t Canine Influenza. It wasn’t poison. It wasn’t a trauma or injury. It wasn’t a tick disease. The only thing we know for sure is that his white blood cell count was super, duper low and that his kidney & liver values indicated the possiblity of some long term underlying disease (though they believe this to be completely unrelated to his death).

As we welcome two new hounds into our family this weekend, we still mourn the untimely and tragic loss of sweet Bodhi. To have no answers makes it almost unbearable to think about. :(

  1. I am so sorry to hear this. He is my girl’s sibling(Poetic Tansy) and I knew he was coming to you and looking forward to the day they could take a romp in the backyard together like they did at the farm.

    Love,
    Jonathan and your sister Tansy

  2. Also my regrets for your loss. I was wondering if you noticed if Bodhi had any internal bleeding at the time? Perhaps blood in his eyes.

What happened with my grey (Jack) was he pulled a muscle while chasing a ball & within several hours his leg was getting purple due to internal bleeding. He also developed a limp. We had a blood test done & his white blood cell count was very low. So he was given Prednisone (steroid). Before the pred’ could kick in I noticed blood starting to appear in one eye, obviously nerve wracking. By the next morning the blood stopping increasing in his eye & the good news was we had caught the problem!
Perhaps Bodhi had the same issue?

Jack is fine today [off the Predz'], but the crazy thing is this whole incident almost happened again. No, No, not because of chasing a ball, but from slipping on the stairs or in the house. I’m not exactly sure from what, but I noticed him limping & decide to watch his leg for internal bleeding. Sure enough it began. Since I had some Prednisone I started him on it ASAP & called the vet for a refill & visit. Everything worked out again but now I carry him everywhere!!! Just kidding he won’t let me :)

Hopefully this info will help you or someone out there in the future.
    Take Care,
    Gordie
